The book came at the right time because of dearth of scholarly literature on abstracting and indexing services that highlights the experiences of developing countries such as Nigeria. The value of the book resides in demystifying the concepts of indexing and abstracting. The book is concise and clearly written, reflecting a compendium of knowledge, skills, experiences, and expertise on indexing and abstracting. I am pleased to introduce this book –it will be of immense benefit to students, scholars and practitioners of information science, information management, library science, and in related fields.
The library and information services, such as circulation, printed catalogue, indexing, abstracting, referencing, inter library loan, current awareness services, selective dissemination of information services etc. have not only been influenced and enhanced by the Internet but achieved a new heights. The problems of acquisition and serial control have also been well taken care by the Internet. The continuous research and development in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and their applications to the library were always been posing new challenges for the library professionals. In this context the present book “Impact of Internet on Library and Information Services of IITs: A study” was conceived and tried to look into the problem and also how IITs library professionals are trying to overcome upon them.
As demands for accountability escalate, assessment continues to evolve as a central aspect of student affairs administration. Experience clearly indicates that without a robust portfolio of assessment activities, the services, programs, and activities of a student affairs division are at risk of being reassigned to other organizational units on campus—or, in a tight budgetary environment, being eliminated. This sourcebook reminds student affairs educators of the importance of developing an assessment program and explores topics that will add depth and richness to such a program. From specific metrics to broad strategies for developing collaborative activities involving academic and student affairs, it shows how to integrate valuable resources into the assessment process and how to use that process to enhance the student experience. The authors also take the largest view, offering advice on developing an institutional culture of assessment and planning future actions that will best serve students during their collegiate years. This is the 142nd volume of this Jossey-Bass higher education quarterly series. An indispensable resource for vice presidents of student affairs, deans of students, student counselors, and other student services professionals, New Directions for Student Services offers guidelines and programs for aiding students in their total development: emotional, social, physical, and intellectual.
Recent advancement in web services plays an important role in business to business and business to consumer interaction. Discovery mechanism is not only used to find a suitable service but also provides collaboration between service providers and consumers by using standard protocols. This research has proposed an efficient dynamic web services discovery mechanism that can locate relevant and updated web services from service registries and repositories with timestamp. It is based on indexing value and categorization for faster and efficient discovery of service. The proposed prototype focuses on quality of service issues and introduces concept of local cache, categorization of services, indexing mechanism, CSP (Constraint Satisfaction Problem) solver, aging and usage of translator. Performance of proposed framework is evaluated by implementing the algorithm. The results of proposed framework show greater performance and accuracy in dynamic discovery mechanism of web services. It resolves the existing issues of flexibility and scalability based on quality of service. It discovers updated and most relevant services with ease of usage.

In this book we present an Autonomic Self-Healing Architecture (ASHE). We use the techniques from Artificial Immune Systems for anomaly classification and indexing in self-healing networks. We categorise self-healing as a super set of conventional FCAPS network management functions. Since self-management functions do not have distinct boundaries, at the implementation level, ambiguities like functional redundancy, logical coupling, can lead to abstraction. Therefore we propose the dynamic composition of healing services so that the precise and customised solution of every fault can be presented.
The research base regarding the effectiveness of intensive community based services for children with serious emotional and behavioral disturbances is limited. The incremental development of systems of care in Indiana provides an opportunity to compare the outcomes of children served in child and family wraparound teams with the outcomes of a matched sample of children receiving usual public mental health services. Functional assessment data from a state database was examined using logistic regression models. The level of development of local systems of care and wraparound services was used as a fidelity measure. Findings suggest the circumstances in which intensive behavioral health services and supports for youth and families are effective.

Teaching reading in the early years is highly emphasised especially in an EFL context like Pakistan; however, its assessment is often neglected. The current study is based on the concept that assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process and it should facilitate the child’s learning. The purpose of this study is to explore classroom-based assessment strategies to assess the reading skills of young children. Through Collaborative Action Research Approach, two classroom-based assessment strategies were explored by the researcher with an early year’s teacher and four children. The book is divided into five chapters giving a detailed account of how researcher conceived this study and the complete research process. This book is recommended for early childhood practitioners and teacher educators and researchers who work in area of assessment.
The mission of schools and the mission of health promotion are interdependent. The promotion of positive health behaviors and the adoption of basic health knowledge and health skills are fundamental public-education outcomes. Healthy children are ready to learn, and being healthy requires education and practice. By embedding the eight components of Coordinated School Health (CSH) into the notion of a school, schools can provide the structure, systems and environment which support children’s health and learning. A broad-stroke assessment of a school’s current health programs and health services will demonstrate this connection between learning and health. Foregrounding the connection that exists between health and learning will reinforce the need for a school to coordinate a health-promoting framework to enhance student learning. The purpose of this study was to conduct an asset and needs assessment of health programs and services; implement or improve programs, services or policies which would enhance CSH; and evaluate the process of the assessment and implementation, in one elementary school.
One of the qualities of a good book is the presence of a quality Back-of-the-book index (BOB). This is an index that uses basic indexing elements which help to network similar concepts and nouns scattered in the text. This book has tried to examine some of these basic indexing elements; and the extent to which these elements have been used in various books published in Nigeria, with special reference to Natural Science texts. It also tried to determine the depth of indexing, the filing and arrangement patterns of the index entries and finally, if differences exist in the indexes of secondary school texts and those of tertiary/general Science books. This book will be useful to library and information science students, and may serve as a reference resource for lecturers, research fellows, authors and publishers.
